Wow! The effectiveness of Fraxel

After several years of studies and mounting evidence of the Fraxel® laser’s safety and effectiveness, the FDA has cleared this unique new laser to treat the following conditions:

Acne Scars

Traditional approaches to clearing the results of acne are not very effective, or typically harm healthy skin tissue along with the scarred area. The more effective procedures typically also necessitate long periods of recovery. Fraxel laser treatment was recently clearly for use in treating acne scars after studies demonstrated that the laser was much more successful than standard therapies at eliminating damaged tissue and promoting new collagen growth.

Brown Spots or Age Spots

Brown spots are the body’s means of protecting itself from sun damage by producing additional melanin. These blemishes can vary in color from deep yellow to black and can be visible on the body in areas like the face, shoulders, hands, arms or forehead.
In the past, brown spots were eliminated with cryotherapy, acid, bleaching, pulsed light or standard laser procedures. Generally, the treatments faded the spots but did not remove them completely. The FDA also recently clearly fraxel laser treatment for brown spots after studies demonstrated its effectiveness in their removal.

Melasma

Melasma is a skin condition that causes brown or tan discoloration on the forehead, cheeks, lips, nose or forearms because the body suddenly overproduces pigment. Standard treatments have included depigmenting agents, steroids, bleaches, pulsed acid facial peels and dermabrasion. Very often, these approaches do not work properly. Traditional laser treatments can also produce less-than-ideal results. The FDA cleared fraxel laser treatment for melasma. Studies have revealed the laser’s effectiveness for the condition.

Wrinkles around the Eyes

Many treatments are available for these wrinkles—otherwise known as “crow’s feet.” Among these are injectable fillers, acid peels, dermabrasion and traditional lasers. These techniques can achieve moderately successful results for many patients. The Fraxel laser has been FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles around the eyes and has proven very competitive—if not more effective than—other remedies.
