Breast Augmentation info from the ASPS

After researching the basics about breast enhancement, many patients want to know what to expect before breast augmentation surgery.  The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has a really neat ‘animation/video’ section of their website which can be viewed HERE.

Prior to breast surgery, your ASPS Member Surgeon may ask you to:

  • Get lab testing or an EKG (in our office all patients over the age of 50 are required to do this)
  • Take certain medications or adjust your current medications (definitely aspirin products must be stopped 2 weeks prior to surgery)
  • Stop smoking well in advance of your breast augmentation surgery (at least 4 weeks prior and 4 weeks after)

Special instructions you receive will cover:

  • What to do on the day of surgery
  • Post-operative care and follow-up
  • Breast implant registry documents

Your plastic surgeon will also discuss where your procedure will be performed. Breast augmentation surgery may be performed in an accredited office-based surgical center, outpatient ambulatory surgical center or a hospital.  Dr. Davis does all of his breast augmentation in our state of the art operating suite.)

You’ll need help

Your breast augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis, so be sure to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and to stay with you for at least the first night following surgery.
