Time to begin addressing summer damage!

Q: The fine lines around my eyes and forehead seem worse than ever after squinting all summer – can this be repaired?

A:  The brightness of the sun hurts our eyes, so our natural reaction is to squint. All of the squinting eventually leads to permanent wrinkles.  You can help protect the delicate eye area by using an eye cream or even a moisturizer with sunscreen.  Once wrinkles are already present, the most common and effective treatment is botulinum toxin injections, commonly referred to as Botox or Dysport. These injections temporarily paralyze and relax the muscles located around the eyes, which prevents the skin from wrinkling. After a few months, another injection will be necessary to smooth the wrinkles out again.  Other methods for getting rid of crow’s feet involve removing the top layer of the skin with microdermabrasion or chemical peels.
